Ahsoka lay awake in bed, Rex beside her, fast asleep. It was early, & though she knew she should be sleeping, she liked being awake when he wasn't. The sound of his steady breathing  was comforting. She leaned over & checked the alarm clock. 5:30, Ahsoka thought, Guess I better get up & get ready. Ahsoka kissed Rex gently on the forehead, then walked into the bathroom & turned the shower on. As she slipped out of her jumpsuit  & stepped in, she heard a creak as the bed strained underneath the weight of Rex pushing on it. That was fast, she thought.
"Morning, sleepyhead." she called into the bedroom. Rex yawned & said, "You're up early." "I just thought I'd get ready for today", Ahsoka said, "Can't start too early, you know?" "Ahsoka..." Rex started. "What?" she asked. "What is it?" "When are you going to quit your job at that greasy run down hovel of a diner & come back to the Jedi? Everyone's worried sick about you...General Skywalker, General Koon...And especially me." Ahsoka sighed as she shut the water off & wrapped a towel around herself. Walking into the bedroom, she said, "I'm going to come back, Rex. I just don't know when. I still have a lot of thinking to do. If the only person who trusts me in the Jedi Order is Anakin, how am I supposed to go back?" "You know that's not true", Rex said, "But everyone is forced to become at least a little suspicious in times like these. Especially during such an important investigation. They want to get to the bottom of it quickly, & if the evidence points to someone, they'll act on it." "I suppose you're right", Ahsoka said, "I'll talk to the Council next week to see if they won't take me back." Ahsoka put her hand on Rex's bicep & squeezed it gently. "You try not to get yourself killed 'til then, 'kay, hotshot?" she teased. Rex smiled & said, "I make no promises."
"Miss! Another round of jama juice over here!" Ahsoka groaned as she walked back over to the table where a blue Duros in the widest-brimmed hat she'd ever seen sat. "Bane, I'm working", she said urgently, "Quit bothering me, will ya?" "Oh, but bothering you is the only reason I come here", Bane said smugly, "By the way, how's that lover boy clone of yours? What was his name? Rex?" Hot with rage, Ahsoka hissed, "Leave Rex out of this." "Oh ho, looks like I struck a nerve", Bane said proudly, "You know at the rate he ages, he'll be dead before you're 40." Ahsoka, unable to contain her rage any longer, slapped the table & said, "Shut...Up." The cook rushed out from behind the counter & said, "Threatening customers, Tano? Gonna have to fire you for that." Ahsoka glared at Bane furiously, then stormed out of the restaurant.
"Ahsoka, wait!" Bane called as he trailed after the fuming ex-Jedi. "I didn't mean to get you fired", he said apologetically, "I was just messing around." "I don't care", Ahsoka said hotly, "Whenever you show up at anywhere I am, it causes trouble." Bane's usually hard glare lifted from his red eyes & he said, "It didn't used to be that way..." "Oh yeah, it was so much better back when you were trying to kill me." Ahsoka fumed. "What? No, Ahsoka, I didn't mean it like..." Bane's sentence was cut short as Ahsoka dashed into an elevator & shut the door. The elevator clicked, then flew up to the next level. "Heh heh...Always trying to get away from me..." Bane chuckled as he walked off.
Ahsoka slammed the door behind her as she stormed into the apartment & slung herself onto the bed. Why am I destined to have the worst luck in the galaxy? Ahsoka thought. In the past few months, I've been fighting alongside rebels, got kidnapped by pirates, & was framed for murder. Ahsoka sighed as she got to her feet. She knew what she had to do.
"Padawan Tano. Good to see you again, it is." Yoda said as Ahsoka stood before the Council, hands folded neatly in front of her. "It's good to see you too, Master Yoda", Ahsoka said, "And that's actually one of the reasons I'm here. I would like to rejoin the Jedi Order." "Padawan Tano, a great deal of thought you have put into this, I see." "The Council will have a vote", Mace Windu said, his face expressionless as always, "Depending on the results, you may rejoin the Order." As Ahsoka bowed & turned to leave, Anakin Skywalker walked into the Council room. "You wanted to see me..." Anakin's sentence was cut short as he saw the young Togruta. "Ahsoka!" he cried, & the two embraced warmly. "It's good to see you again, Anakin." Ahsoka said calmly. "Did they do it? Has the Council reinstated you yet?" "Indeed", Yoda piped up, "Ahsoka Tano, reached a decision, the Council has. Rejoin the Jedi Order, you may." "Welcome back, Snips", Anakin grinned, "Looks like we need to build you some new lightsabers."
Rex stepped into the apartment, shutting the door behind him as he removed his helmet. The place was extremely quiet, which was odd, because Ahsoka was normally here by now. As he walked to the bedroom, Rex saw Ahsoka's belt hanging on the door-on it, a pair of brand-new lightsabers. "That's my girl." Rex said as he walked into the bedroom. "You saw that, huh?" Ahsoka said, rolling over to look at him. "I knew you couldn't stay away forever", he said, "Just like old times, huh?" "Yeah", Ahsoka said, grinning, "Just like old times."

In case anyone is wondering, this not only takes place after the events of my other short story, "Rex's Proposal", it also take place after the investigation of the Jedi Temple bombing & the murder of Letta Turmond.
